6 SIMPLE THINGS I STOPPED DOING TO MY NATURAL HAIR

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all having a good day and had a great start of the week. I decided to embark on a water fast and don’t even know what made me do such a thing, I haven’t cheated or fainted yet so let’s hope I make it through. Anyway since I was thinking of doing my hair this week, it made me realise how my routine has changed. If you read my post here on how to have healthy natural hair then you know what it takes. Since then, my hair has gone through a lot from pregnancy to colour damage to lots of unnecessary trims. I did notice 6 simple things I stopped doing to my natural hair and I will be sharing that with you today.

6 SIMPLE THINGS I STOPPED DOING TO MY NATURAL HAIR

1. LENGTH CHECKING

I know that once you have undergone the big chop, you now start taking care of your hair and checking the length every time you do a twist out or have a wash day becomes the norm. I am not saying it’s bad to length check your hair, it’s just that for me I care more about my hair’s health other than whether it’s on my shoulders or not. So I stopped doing that and I am fine with that.

2. COMPARING MY HAIR WITH OTHERS

I think I talked about this before and how it can really be damaging, just because we have the same hair type doesn’t mean everything will be the same or the products you use will definitely work on me. I fell for this all the time and once I stopped and just did what I thought was right for my hair, then everything fell back into place and my hair started improving. So stop comparing and just do you.

3. COMPLICATING MY ROUTINE

You might probably be wondering how can I complicate my routine, but it does happen. From washing, treating, detangling and even how to do all those steps. Well, I used to have so many steps for no reason at all instead of just sticking to the basics which I learnt the hard way from doing what I said above and trying to use other people’s routines. I stopped doing that and came up with the simplest way which works for me and my hair type.

4. TOO MANY PRODUCTS

Just like complicating my routine, I also love my products and hoarding hair products is what I had started doing and using too many when washing my hair. This just wasted money and made my routine longer, I reduced my products and now stick to my favourite shampoo and conditioner and only buy treatments when I really need to treat my hair. I also stopped using new products until what I have stops working. So far, my Cantu is not going anywhere anytime soon.

5. USING TOO MANY TOOLS

We’ve all been there where once you see that Youtube video about a certain brush, you think that you have to have it and that it will save you from all the detangling horrors. I bought like 7 brushes and my hair still was annoying me, I threw 5 of them out and only stick to my wide tooth comb and my tangle teezer and that’s it. I used to love my denman brush until it just stopped working for me and now I don’t use it at all.

6. MAKING MY HAIR RULE ME

Last but not least, this is more like a bonus really, I stopped making my hair rule me and just had fun with it. If I want to cut it I will and that’s what I am planning to do this year. If I want to colour it I will and will not second guess whether I saw this or don’t think It would look nice on me. I am more free when it comes to making hair decisions than I was before and I am loving it. All I know is it’s on my head and I can do whatever I want with it.

There you go, the 6 simple things I stopped doing to my natural hair. Now I know that I may want to add some steps at times but that is when it’s totally necessary and can’t do without. Also to know how to stretch natural hair without heat, do check out my post here. If you are into protective styling, these are some of the ones I love and keep on doing all the time. Do comment below if you have any questions, and until next time tell me, do you tend to change your beauty regimens often or stick to the same?
