NEWBORN ESSENTIALS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER

Hello everyone,

I know I’ve been missing for a while but life with a newborn has really been taking a toll on me, keeping me busy and over all just showing me how life with two kids changes everything, also it made me realise how much time I had before versus now. Having a newborn can be both exciting and challenging at the same time depending on how your experience is plus just because it’s your second doesn’t mean it will be a breeze. For me, it’s been a mixture of both highs and lows and downright pulling my hair out moments but I am getting through it and coping. Today’s post is all about newborn essentials to make your life easier, if you’re expecting or plan to have a baby, then this should be right up your alley.

So, if you’ve been reading my posts for a while, you may have noticed that I didn’t mention anywhere that I was expecting my second child and as much as I wanted to tell you all about my experiences during my whole pregnancy, I decided to keep it private and I hope you all understand. Plus it does really help when your belly never shows and makes everyone think your mad when you show up with a newborn nine months later. I may just put all that in another post for next time but today, let’s get on with newborn essentials that have really helped me so far and are making my life easier.

NEWBORN ESSENTIALS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER

What does one really need?

So, I am not going to tell you the obvious ones because we know you will need basic necessities like

  • Clothing( I suggest you just get onesies ,mittens, socks, sleepers to start with)
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Crib
  • Milk (depending on whether you choose to breastfeed or formula).
  • Bottles, sterilisers (If you do choose formula)

Now all the above are necessary and essential too but if you want to make your life a tad bit easier, I suggest you have a look at these.

1. SLEEPYHEAD POD DELUXE

Just like the dockatot, this is a co-sleeping pod which helps baby sleep well and I wanted to try it out. As much as it’s for co-sleeping I do not recommend you put this in your bed and sleep next to your child, rather place it in the crib to help with the baby moving from side to side plus it’s good to know that he isn’t going to roll over to the side or on his tummy because that would just be scary to even think about. Now this comes in different sizes depending on the stage your child is in but I think getting the first one is enough since the crib is totally fine when the baby outgrows it but that’s just my opinion.

2. CHICCO NEXT2ME SIDE SLEEPING CRIB

Now this has been a total lifesaver for me. If you’re like me and have gotten a c-section or you’re going to get one, then this crib is a definite for you. I love how close I am to the baby without really moving much. Healing from a c-section is not that fast and so for all those night wakings, this next2me crib has really been great to be able to just reach out arms length and check on the baby. Plus the pod fits in it perfectly and I use both together now then will use the crib on it’s own later once I move my son to his own room when he is ready.

3. JOIE SPIN 360 CAR SEAT

I know some may say that this one is not really necessary but as the title says it’s to make your life much easier. If you already use car seats, then you are aware of the bending one has to do to get the seat belts to buckle well across your child I usually have to bend so much but I guess it’s due to me being short and because of that, I decided to get the spin 360 in order for it to be easy for me when it comes to strapping him in and removing him and the best part is checking on him is way easier when he decides to spit or vomit his milk out and to just check that he is fine, this really does make my life easier when it comes to car rides.

4. MOTHERCARE 4 POSITION BABY CARRIER

You will notice that I have not put a stroller on this list and that’s just my preference since when the baby is tiny, I think a carrier is way easier than having a stroller. When it comes to doing school runs, I prefer putting him in the carrier and out of the door in minutes plus I learnt from my first born that you never know whether the child will love it or not. My first baby hated the stroller and couldn’t even last an hour in it and so that was money wasted on something and expecting it to work great. I am not saying I will not get one because I already ordered it but will receive it later since I am fine with the carrier for now. The best part about this carrier is that it supports your lower back too.

5. SHNUGGLE COSY BATHTUB

Now I have to admit that from around the second trimester of my pregnancy, I had my eye on this tub and I know it’s not a big deal but it looked really nice to me and I had to get it and hope that my son wouldn’t be a whiner when it comes to bath time. I have been using this and I am happy to say that it’s perfect and works great on a newborn, if you prefer to bath your baby while standing, there are stands for it too. I thought that it would be big for my son since he is really tiny and that I would never get to use it until he gets a bit bigger but it does have a nice padded back and the baby is comfortable with no fuss.

6. TOMMEE TIPPEE SANGENIC TEC NAPPY DISPOSAL TUB

I used to be the one who would say that there’s no point of having something like this but after experiencing a normal bin with my first, I am happy to have a smell free room when bouts of poopy diapers start rolling in. It does the job well in keeping the smells out and the amount of diapers it can fit in is really convenient. I love the twisting effect it has after putting diapers in and you can be able to use one bag for a long time before needing to replace it.

7. CHICCO BOPPY PILLOW

If you’re a mum, then you’ve heard about the boppy pillow, I never got this the first time around and that was pretty stupid of me because let me tell you people, this really does save you a lot of headaches when it comes to breastfeeding and supporting your child. This pillow has made everything easier for me this time around and helps with your back too, also positioning your baby in different positions is much easier with the boppy pillow.

8. AVENT BREAST PUMP

This will depend on whether you choose to breastfeed or not. If you choose formula, then you don’t have to bother yourself with a breast pump but if you’re breastfeeding then you might want to consider a pump to help you when it comes to needing to pump some milk to store or to be able to have a break and let someone else help with feeding and letting you rest for a while. You don’t have to get an electric one since you can choose the manual one but this is much easier and will help to make it much faster.

9. BT VIDEO BABY MONITOR

This really does make my life easier to be honest. I am one of those paranoid mothers who thinks that if I leave my child sleeping for an hour then I have to check on him like every five minutes if possible and as much as I know that running up and down the stairs would help with exercising, a baby monitor is really helpful when I am either cooking or just downstairs doing blogging stuff and spending time with the rest of the family. Also I love the night vision it has and lullabies you can use to play for your baby. You can also talk to the baby, check room temperature, set timers and has zooming features which is helpful.

10. COMFORT AND HARMONY CRADLING BOUNCER

Lastly, I could not end this list without a baby bouncer. Bouncers are super helpful when it comes to distracting your baby for a while and to keep them occupied when you have lots of stuff to do and need him to just be calm and be in the same room as you. This bouncer does help me to do stuff around the house and keep my son close plus when he wants to take short naps, I use the bouncer for that too instead of taking him straight to his bed.

That’s it guys, those are my newborn essentials that have made my life easier. Do have a lovely week and if you have any questions, don’t forget to drop them in the comments below. So, what have you been up to lately?

  20. You’re entire list is awesome, and I’m co-signing it 100%. 😂 The dockatot is such a life saver, and makes co-sleeping much safer! Congrats on your new bundle of joy!

  21. Such a great list you have compiled here! One thing I would like to add, if I may.

My mother volunteers at local hospitals and medical centers making breast cancer heart pillows. However, many other patients have found that they can find relief from these types of pillows as well (children, and most definitely brand new breastfreading mother’s). It is worth checking out if there are volunteers in your area who are involved in this type of project – often times it is a great way to get youth involved as well. If there is no such project, then think about starting one for your own area! A great way to support both new mothers, and also those suffering from illnesses.

  22. I agree with you that having a newborn is a joyful experiences but it also has its challenges Challenges arise that demands that you creatively and effectively manage your time, especially when you have other kids, among whom you must divide up your time so that they all have their needs met. You need to be super organized. I see that you are well aware of this as you have properly equipped yourself with Chico next2me side sleeping crib, the Joie spin 360 car seat, breast pump, video baby monitor and other contextually friendly tools .

  23. Congrats on your newborn! My baby is a little too old for these things (10 months old) but I remember wanting to get most of these items – they all have great reviews and would definitely make things easier for a new mom. This list would make a great starting point for moms shopping for a newborn. 🙂

  24. Awww congrats to you! Hugs as you go through the highs and lows. This is such a great list! I’ll be saving it for one day down the line :). xx Belle
