Hello Everyone,
I hope you’re all doing great and having a blessed day so far. I am sure you already know by now that I love using puff pastry. Whenever I need something quick to whip up and can’t bother creating too much work for myself, then my trustee store-bought puff pastry comes in handy. So, if you have any apples lying around your pantry, then these puff pastry apple turnovers should make you excited. Simple, quick and very delicious. For the recipe you will need;
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of rolled-out pastry
- 4 apples(I used pink lady but granny smith and gala are good too)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1tsp flour
- 4 tbsp water for slurry
- An egg for the egg wash
METHOD
- Peel, core and chop your apples into small cubes.
- Melt your butter in a pan add in your apples and gently stir.
- Let them cook for around three minutes and add your salt and brown sugar.
- Continue frying until the sugar melts and starts coating the apples.
- Then add your cinnamon and stir to combine with the apples.
- Finally, add your flour and water slurry to thicken and simmer gently until the apples are tender.
- Make sure they are just soft and not mushy.
- Remove from heat and set aside to cool a bit.
- Meanwhile, stretch your rolled puff pastry just a bit using a rolling pin.
- Then cut into half lengthwise, and then horizontally to form small squares.
- Once the apple mixture is cooled, divide it equally into the squares on one side.
- In order to be able to flip them in half.
- Using a fork, crimple the sides around and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 180ºC fan-assisted oven/200ºC conventional oven /400ºF
- Place them in a lined baking tray, egg wash the tops and slit the tops slightly.
- Into the oven for 25 minutes until golden brown.
- Then onto a rack to cool.
- Serve and enjoy.
