IT’S BEEN A WHILE BUT I AM GLAD TO BE BACK

IT'S BEEN A WHILE BUT I AM GLAD TO BE BACK

Where have I been?

Hello everybody, I hope you’ve all been fine. The last time I was here was with my ribs recipe, which in case you missed it, do check it out because they really are worth making. So where have I been? Let’s just do a mini recap without going crazy. Well we moved house after the one we were in got sold and had to vacate, I know these are the disadvantages of renting and not owning “sigh”. The worst part is that we had four weeks to find a new place and if you have moved house before, then you know it’s not that easy mostly if you bought more stuff. We had to find what’s available, be able to view them and at the same time do school runs. So that’s why I’ve been missing and yes it’s been a while but I am glad to be back.

MY VISIT TO KENYA HOLIDAY ROUNDUP

my visit to Kenya holiday roundup

Hi guys, spring is starting and am getting excited. On my last month’s update here, I talked about going on holiday and how scary it was for me since I was leaving my son for two weeks and I had never left him ever since I had him and as much as it freaked me out, it was the best decision. I am going to try and make this post as short as possible by probably bombarding you with my holiday photos that I managed to take when I remembered. This is my visit to Kenya holiday roundup.

How did it all come about?

When we were planning to go visit Croatia last year, I thought of how my husband and son would go by themselves and I would visit my parents instead. At first, it sounded crazy and I ignored it for a while until I started thinking about it more and decided I was going to do it and see how it all goes. So a few months later, I started planning my trip.

If you read my 20 random facts about me post, you already know am Kenyan and my whole family is there so my destination was obviously going to be Kenya. I started telling my son when I was going and how long I was going for just for him to be ready, my mother in-law came to visit at the same time so that she would be able to spend more time with her grandson and help take care of him while my husband was at work. I arrived in Nairobi very early and shocked my family in the early hours, it was a very good surprise.

DAIRY FREE ZUCCHINI VANILLA CUPCAKE RECIPE

dairy free zucchini vanilla cupcake recipe

Hi guys,

I hope your week is going on just fine. This week I decided to revisit a recipe I used to make but then kind of neglected it for a while. As I had said before in my other post here, my son is allergic to milk and we thought it would have disappeared once he turned 2 then three and now he is almost four but clearly it’s just chilling on the side lines saying “Am still here” and will not disappear anytime soon. I found this recipe that my son loves from the cook yourself thin book and just in case I forgot to mention, it’s not only dairy free but fat free too. So if you need a low calorie treat, then this recipe is for you. This is a dairy free zucchini vanilla cupcake recipe. (Updated pictures)

A GLANCE AT JANUARY-My Monthly Update

a glance at january-my monthly update

 Hello February

Can you believe that January is over? Like really, I’m not complaining but just a while back I was taking down the Christmas tree and my son was whining why it wouldn’t stay up as long as he wants. Anyway, that’s life for you and I enjoy every second of it. So January has not been too bad to me, apart from dealing with colds and coughs which we are still trying to recover from, I think it’s been all good. I figured I would give you guys an update on how everything has been this past month. This is a glance at January-My Monthly Update.

MY BEEF PILAU RECIPE

MY BEEF PILAU RECIPE

Hello Everyone,

Pilau is what is on my mind today, I love pilau and always brings back great memories. I try to put it on my menu all the time until my family starts asking for something different then I know it’s time to give it a break. Known for being an Indian or Middle Eastern dish, I got to try my first pilau when I was younger and I’m guessing that was the Kenyan version which I learnt to make and still do the same way I saw back then. I used beef instead of chicken in my pilau but it can also be made into a veggie version. For my beef pilau recipe, you will need;

10 LIFE LESSONS I’VE LEARNT SO FAR

10 life lessons i've learnt so far

Hey Everyone,

I do know I am still going to have lots more of  lessons throughout my lifetime but these are 10 life lessons I’ve learnt so far.

  • Don’t be afraid to fail, you might think that there is nothing else that can go wrong but they do and all you need to do is pick yourself up and try even harder.
  • Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Pride always comes before a fall, so don’t let your pride get the best of you. If you can get help do ask.
  • Life is too short. Now this is still one of the lessons I am getting to understand even more. Every morning we wake up is a new day. So try new things, travel, eat something new, the same morning never repeats itself.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others. You will never know what someone else is going through behind the scenes, so follow your own path and stop looking back.
  • Try and discover yourself each and every day, don’t limit yourself to a particular thing you will be surprised at what you are capable of.
  • Always see the good in another’s. This one can be difficult as much as there’s that one person that ones to make you go nuts, just find the good in them and all will be fine.
  • Not everyone is what they seem to be. Have people you can rely on and build each other up. Friends come and go but if you get to have just one to be there for you when need be, then stick by them too.
  • Family is always important. Blood is thicker than water, don’t forget to be around family from time to time.
  • Be kind to others, it doesn’t hurt to say “Good morning”, the goodness comes back to you. As the quote says what you see in others exists in you, here are various things happy people do
  • Lastly, love deeply and unconditionally.

What are your life lessons so far?

MY TOP BEAUTY PRODUCTS

my top beauty products

Hey there,

When it comes to beauty products, I am sort of a hoarder and as much as I tell myself to stop buying new products, they still end in the cart. Luckily I have some that always remain the same. These are some of my top beauty products that I am not planning to change for a long time, as they say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. From brushes, to moisturisers and masks.

1. MAGNITONE CLEANSING BRUSH

Before I got this brush, I had my eyes on the clarisonic and thought that it would not impress me, but after three years of using the magnitone, I have no regrets and am still excited every time I get to use it, because it does the same thing it deep cleanses my skin, removes my remaining makeup perfectly and has no faulty issues plus it saved me some money compared to the clarisonic. I change the brushes every six months and until I decide to replace it, am good with this one.

2. DICKINSONS WITCHHAZEL TONER

I started using this when I ran out of apple cider vinegar and I must say, I love it, not too harsh very refreshing and it just makes my skin feeling clean and clear and my breakouts have really reduced after sticking to this toner.

3. AVEENO MOISTURISER

This moisturiser is the it for me, I used to ignore it thinking it was just another one claiming to reduce breakouts, but it has made my skin better and will continue using it because  I am hesitant to try out another product. Even when I know I have a new product to use, I still go back to this one because it’s the only product that works for my skin finally.

4. BENTONITE CLAY MASK

It’s not only pocket friendly, but the results are amazing and for the amount you get, it will last you long. I chose this as my top beauty product because it does exactly as it says it would, your face feels like you thoroughly deep cleaned it but without the scrubbing effort and with flawless results, I am not planning on changing it anytime soon for more on my face mask review, find it here. Perfect product in my opinion.

5. IVES COLLAGEN MOISTURISER

This is my last layer when it comes to my night time routine. The first time I used it, my skin woke up feeling plump and so soft and now my husband uses it and he loves it.I wrote about this in my skincare routine here. It’s a good night cream that’s why it’s in my top beauty products.I am tempted to try out the Neutrogena water gel  because the packaging looks so cool and serene. Anyway I will continue using this and I will get the Neutrogena to try out. Will give my review after I get it.

There you go, my top beauty products as per now and I know I might end up changing them some time down the line but until then, I will stick with these. If you have any questions or you would like to tell me about your top beauty products, please do tell in the comments below. Do you have any go to products you that you stick to strictly and don’t tend to change?
