Hey there,
” I got my chicken bones and my chowmein” chowmein! chowmein! Let’s just say I’ve been watching lots of tv and the Just Eat commercial keeps on sticking in my head. Anyway, I hope your week started off great and that you’re all ready for Spring. I am still yet to see some sunshine since all I’ve been experiencing is bouts of rain and with schools being open this week, school runs are in order. For the past few weeks, I have been craving some fried chicken and watching Youtube mukbang videos made me to finally decide to make some, I normally do oven baking but this time I just had to. Be prepared to make yourself the best crispy fried chicken. Here’s what you need:
Ingredients
- 1kg Chicken wings
- A teaspoon Onion Powder
- 3 teaspoons five spice powder
- 3 teaspoons sesame oil
- 4 Cloves crushed garlic
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 2 Cups all-purpose flour
- Black pepper
- Salt
- Paprika
- 1 lime
Note: I used chicken wings but you can also do thighs or drumsticks you will just have to adjust the portions of the marinade according to the amount and also add the time you will take to fry them. All in all, you will still get the same fabulous results. Enjoy.
METHOD
- First and foremost, we need to marinate the wings, so go ahead and place them in a bowl.
- In a small bowl, take your garlic, five spice powder, sesame oil, lime juice and onion powder.
- Mix them together and pour it in the bowl of chicken, then with clean hands or a spoon, massage the mixture into the chicken to coat all the pieces.
- Cover the bowl with cling film and put it in the fridge and let it marinate for a few hours or even 24 hours depending on when you want to have them.
- Once it’s time to prepare your chicken, make sure you remove it from the fridge one hour before in order for it to get to room temperature.
- Meanwhile start prepping your breading mixture I use flour. If you have a ziploc bag you can use that but I just used a paper bag, improvisation is key in the kitchen at times.
- In a pan or deep fryer, heat up your vegetable oil to around 375°F.
- In the bag or a bowl, pour in the flour, a teaspoon paprika, salt to taste, a teaspoon black pepper, another teaspoon onion powder and mix it all up.
- Take your chicken pieces and drop them in the flour mixture and shake it all up until they are all coated evenly.
- Now comes the frying, shake off the excess flour and make sure not to overcrowd your pan, just fry them in small batches. I did mine in threes and cooked them for 10 to 15 minutes depending on the size of your wings.
- Once you take them out, place them on a kitchen towel or grease proof papers to drain off excess oil.
- Finish deep frying your wings, prep your side dish and be ready to serve. If your not eating them right away, place them in the oven just to keep them warm at around 75°C.
- Serve and Enjoy.
